Our Story

Suamora Wellness Collective was born from the personal journey of its founder, Jen, who grew up in a Malaysian-Chinese household in Queens, NY. While the home was filled with good food and some family traditions, there was also much tension and isolation. After her parents' divorce, Jen and her younger brother found solace in their individual activities. But the sudden passing of their mother in 2018 shook their world. Watching her brother struggle mentally in the aftermath, Jen realized how vital it is to manage stress, communicate effectively, and repair fractured relationships.

As a first-generation American and NYC high school Restorative Justice teacher, Jen understands the complexities of growing up in a different culture from her parents. She knows firsthand the emotional toll that generational trauma can have. This inspired her to create Suamora  — a combination of the Finnish word Sisu and the Latin word Amor to mean ‘Resilient Love’ — as a sanctuary dedicated to helping first- and second-generation Americans navigate life’s transitions, mend relationships, and reclaim their well-being.

At Suamora, we blend cultural values with restorative practices to help families heal, communicate, and find resilience in love. We exist to provide support during difficult transitions, companionship in releasing emotional burdens, and a guiding light in dark times—because no one should feel alone in their journey to healing.
