Her Strength, My Light
Written by Jen Gao
For the women who paved the way, so that we could rise with grace.
To my big sis, bold and wise,
A guiding star beneath wide skies —
You lead with grace, passion and radiance,
Lighting paths I never knew.
In your steps, I’ve found my own,
A steady strength, a heart full-grown.
Michelle on ice, a soaring dream,
Gliding swift, a hopeful gleam —
You showed me what could truly be,
A face like mine, wild, decorated, and free.
Your silent poise, each daring jump and spin,
Whispered, Jian Ling, believe within.
And to my mother, generous and kind,
A softer power, rare to find —
Your independent spirit, your dedication and care,
Taught me strength and love are always there.
Through quiet deeds, you’ve shown the way
That with love, there will always be a brighter day.
To the women who crossed distant lands,
Carrying hope in weathered hands —
Your stories woven, strong and deep,
Of dreams you dared and fears you keep.
Your courage hums within my hair, heart, and chest —
Immigrant families, unbreakable and truly blessed.
